Ruth Nicholls -Intellectual properties in the creative industries

Today we had our first talker, name : Ruth Nicholls. She works with intellectual properties in the creative industries.
I found her talk really important today because she talked about legally protecting our work.
First, she talked about copyrighting and how to protect it.
To protect it we need to:

-record our ideas
-demand confidentiality
-include a copyright notice when you share your work
-even post your ideas to yourselves

When you’re a freelancer you will own your own copyright however when you’re hired by a company, the employer own the ideas of the employee.

She then talked about trademarks.
Trademarks are ™ (the “trademark symbol”, which is the letters “TM” in superscript, for an unregistered trademark, a mark used to promote or brand goods) ℠ (which is the letters “SM” in superscript, for an unregistered service mark, a mark used to promote or brand services)
This can protect a business from others steal their designs, symbols or logo.
